Now that you have made the decision to enjoy a Presidents’ Day getaway in the mountain town of Telluride, it is time to discover all of the magical things to do in Telluride Colorado you can enjoy during your stay! We at Accommodations in Telluride feel it is vital that your escape to Colorado is filled with fun and fancy, and as such, we have created this guide to all that is wonderful about February vacation and we invite you to explore every adventure, coming home every evening to the comfort and luxury of our vacation retreats. Relax, explore, and discover the beauty of Telluride one adventure at a time.
The Slopes Are Open
Presidents’ Day falls in the center of ski season, and if you do nothing else, spending many glorious hours on the slopes will be the highlight of your vacation. Haven’t skied before? Telluride Ski Resort provides lessons for adults as well as children, divided into age groups, ensuring you won’t feel like at a giant at a conference for garden fairies as you learn the difference between pizza slices and French fries. (Although we aren’t sure the instructors still use those terms for adult lessons!) Everything you need for a day on the slopes can be rented on the mountain or in the sporting goods stores in town, so no need to worry about bringing your own.
Shop the Sales
Like Civil Rights Day, there generally aren’t specific events geared towards the holiday, but one thing you can count on in both instances is that there will be sales at the shops and boutiques that line our streets. There is nothing more exhilarating (aside from falling in love or a day on the slopes) than purchasing that sweet sweater you have been eyeing at a lower price, and as you dip in and out of cozy boutiques with names like Two Skirts, Scarpe, or even Sublime. Sporting goods stores such as Jagged Edge Mountain Gear and Christy Sports on Oak Street will help keep you properly geared up for your mountain adventures and may provide more interesting merchandize for the men in your traveling party.
A Foodie Tour
There is a little known fact about vacation food that we love to share with our guests and that is the understanding that vacation food offers zero calories and fat! Ok, we are obviously exaggerating, but we can promise that you won’t care how many calories or fat are in the meals you eat at local restaurants and a foodies tour of the town should provide stops at 221 S Oak, Alpino Vino, and La Marmotte and many more. The restaurants listed here to visit while vacationing in Telluride will also take you on a tour of countries, including Italy and France, so adventurous palates are destined to be happy ones!
Some Festivals to Explore
Although these festivals are not Presidents’ Day related, they do offer fun, frolic, and a peek into beauty and are worthy of attending. Our early bird guests, those who arrive before the start of the holiday weekend may enjoy laughing till their ribs ache while attending the Telluride Comedy Festival that generally takes place the week before the holiday weekend. For fashionistas, the Telluride AIDS Benefit Fashion Week takes place before, during, and after Presidents’ Day, providing 10 plus days of shows and events that all benefit the research for a cure for AIDS.
Something Different
Although waterfalls are generally considered a summer experience in colder countries, Bridal Veil Falls offers something different, guaranteed to be enjoyed by daredevils and adventure seekers. The water tumbling over the cliffs freezes completely in the winter months, providing a sleek and icy challenge adored by ice climbers all over the world! Come watch colorfully garbed climbers strut their stuff, or if you happen to enjoy a challenge yourself, rent your gear from our local stores and give it a shot! We doubt ice climbing would be considered a normal celebratory activity, but we in Telluride love to celebrate those who step outside the box!
