Spring in our mountain town may look a little different than it does in your own hometown, especially as winter hasn’t completely released its hold on us, but that’s ok. The weather just adds another layer of excitement and fun to a vacation that is destined to be one you use as an example of what a vacation should look and feel like. One Last Trip on the Slopes
If you know, you know, and springtime in Colorado doesn’t always involve rain, pretty flowers, and warm temps, and since our ski slopes don’t normally close for the season until sometime around mid-April, you can squeeze a few more hours of winter fun into your busy schedule! (The dates are different every year; in 2024 the last day is April 7.) Because we are at the end of the season, it doesn’t make sense to buy a season ticket, but many of our guests are avid skiers and may have bought their season passes at the beginning of the season, ensuring they get as much use out of them as possible. (Something to think about for next year, maybe?)
Easter on Ice
The first Sunday after the spring equinox full moon is the official date of Easter, but whatever date that may be, it still falls firmly into the Telluride spring season, and Telluride offers a really exciting event called Easter on Ice for your bunny-loving babies. Held at the Mountain Village Ice Rink, outside of the Madeline, participating children will receive a backpack to hold the eggs they collect and a Telluride Scavenger Hunt coloring page with crayons. Even better, they will get the chance to skate with the Easter Bunny for an experience that will put stars in their eyes. Also offering an egg hunt in a designated area and family photo opportunities, this exciting event will ease the worries of kiddos afraid the Easter Bunny will miss them if they aren’t at home.
Get in One Last Ride on the Gondola
The free Gondola that takes people up and down the mountain from the town of Telluride to Mountain Village takes a break after ski season closes, opening again right before Memorial Day, so if you can squeeze in your spring vacation prior to the last day of ski season, this experience promises to be one of your favorites, offering breathtaking views in a climate controlled glass box, that ensures even if it is raining or snowing you will stay cozy and dry for the ride while also enabling you to take some of the best pictures of the family with the landscape serving as a stunning backdrop.
White Water Rafting
As we move later into the spring months, there are more activities in Telluride CO that are destined to fulfill all your vacation dreams, including a white water rafting trip down the San Miguel River in Telluride. Opening after Memorial Day Weekend, Durango River Trippers offers a variety of half day trips in May and June. The tour covers approximately 10 river miles, with the melting of the snow caps providing an especially thrilling trip. Ticket prices are currently $119 per person (compared to $159) and a good time is promised to be had by all.
Mountainfilm Festival, May 23-May 27
This documentary film festival is a popular mid-spring activity, held when the weather is finally starting to warm up and providing a chance to watch the documentaries that celebrate change, adventure, social justice, and the indomitable spirit of the human race. This year will be the 45th one that this worthy festival has come to town and the list of documentaries being featured seems endless, showing at a variety of theaters in town.
