Getting Around in Telluride

Getting around Telluride is pleasantly easy. It’s a walkers’ dream town. Everything is so close. In fact, Telluride is one of those picturesque historic towns that really should be enjoyed on foot.

Ridesharing

There aren’t any taxi services in town, but there are two private limo services you can book to take you from town to town or to the airport. And of course, there’s always Lyft.

The Gondola

Connecting western-style Telluride and alpine-style Mountain Village, the gondola is more than just Telluride transportation. It’s an amazing way to get a breathtaking, panoramic view of the entire area. The gondola is open from 7am ‘til midnight, practically year-round. A late night trip on the gondola is a must, just to see Telluride in the moonlight.

The Goose

Telluride’s free shuttle bus, the Galloping Goose, operates year-round and makes a loop through Telluride every twenty minutes from 7am until midnight. There’s also a complementary shuttle service, Dial-a-Ride, in Mountain Village. Just call ahead to reserve your spot.

Cars, ATVs, and Snowmobiles

Cars can be a pain in Telluride, just because of the limited parking. That said, renting a four-wheel drive car is the way to go if you want to make a day trip to Mesa Verde or other nearby attraction. ATVs and snowmobiles are an alternate way to get to some of the popular spots just out of town, like Alta Lakes or one of the nearby ghost towns or abandoned mines.

Walking, Biking, Snowshoeing and Skiing

When there’s snow on the ground, getting around Telluride can be fun, especially if you’re staying in one of our ski-in/ski-out condos. Just put on your skis or snowshoes and head out. And when the ground is bereft of snow, head out on your mountain bike or fat bike or just put on a pair of comfy shoes and walk everywhere. Things are pretty close together in both Mountain Village and Telluride, and you can get away without a car most of the time.

You can enjoy your walk through the town wandering through the historic streets on your own as you like, or you can take the River Trail that winds along the San Miguel River and connects the east and west sides of town. If you get tired of walking, just hop on the Goose.
