The end of winter can often bring a quiet sadness to those who love the season. They knew it was inevitable, seasons come and seasons go, but their relationship with the cold, the snow, and the outdoor activities in the winter months is a strong one they don’t want to have to put on hold for another year. Fortunately, for those who truly love the siren’s call of winter, planning a spring vacation to Telluride and a stay in our Accommodations in Telluride seasonal sanctuaries can keep Old Man Winter in the picture a little longer, and this guide to the best outdoor activities in Telluride will show you a few of the ways you will love every minute of this seasonal reprieve! Explore why choosing a spring in Telluride getaway is a great time of year to visit below!

Schuss Until April 6th

skiing

Although all good things do come to an end, the end of ski season is scheduled for April 6th in 2025, giving skiers and snowboarders a whopping 17 extra days of winter and 17 more shots at a schuss down the slopes. Telluride Ski Resort is known for its expert trails, with 59% of the resort being dedicated to these difficult runs, and it is also known for its small-town lines, ensuring that you will enjoy maximum time flying down the mountain and less time freezing your way up it! Additionally, these last 17 days aren’t really a busy time, as everyone who doesn’t love winter as much as you do has gone back to real life or are sipping margaritas at the beach while you get your snow on. Spring may be what the calendar says it is, but in the heart of Telluride, winter reigns supreme!

Ride the Waves

For this next activity, we are going to fast forward a few weeks to the end of May. The temperatures are rising, the snow is melting, and the rapids are rapiding this time of year, as the snowmelt has only one way to go: down and into the rivers that traverse the area! Telluride Outside, located at 221 W Colorado Avenue, offers a variety of half day trips on the San Miguel River, allowing you the opportunity to pit your resources against those raging waters and come out the other end a little damper, a little more tired, and with some awesome pics of your adventures in hand, as they have a photographer waiting at one of the bends, ready to capture the shot of your adventures that will make everyone back home green with envy!

Hike to Bridal Veil Falls

bridal veil fall

Bridal Veil Falls is our state’s tallest waterfall, reaching 365 feet in height and offering a sight that never fails to make your heart beat faster, and in the late spring, when snowmelt makes it even more voluptuous, the photos you take will more than likely be the best you have ever taken. If your spring journey brings you to our doorstep earlier in the season, you may be able to witness something you have never experienced before, a frozen waterfall adding an extra layer of magic to the photos you take. The Bridal Veil Falls Trail is the best way to reach the spot where the water tumbles over rocks worn smooth, with the hike being relatively short and easy, offering a 2-mile in-and-out trail that takes hikers directly to the base of the falls while providing a scenic route that will burrow its way into your heart.

Telluride Balloon Festival, June 6 through June 8

Although Memorial Day is often considered the official kickoff to summer and the Telluride Balloon Festival takes place the weekend AFTER Memorial Day this year, we all know that summer doesn’t officially start until the end of June, making this wonderful event one of our favorite spring events. Besides, winter invaded much of spring, so it is only fair that spring gets it shot before summer takes over and the festival offers a serenely beautiful way to celebrate the night, especially, during Balloon Glow on Saturday night. But whether you are watching the balloons float through the sky or are simply exploring the shops and restaurants that surround the balloons that are anchored to the ground, this festival is sure to be your favorite!
