3-Day Journey to Telluride

Although everyone would love to spend a week or more exploring all that Telluride has to offer, it isn’t always possible to do so. Sometimes you only have a long weekend and the need to get away. Accommodations in Telluride understands this, and because we want to ensure that visiting Telluride gives you the opportunity to experience its highlights, falling in love with its unique qualities and perhaps planning a return trip at a later date when you have more time, we have prepared this itinerary for a three-day journey to Telluride, showing you our favorite parts and sharing our passion for our hometown in all the best ways!

Day 1: Let the Good Times Begin

Your first day in Telluride will probably start a little later than the other two and will most likely be taken up by checking in to your Accommodations in Telluride retreat (check-in isn’t until 4 PM, unless you have requested and been approved for an earlier check-in time), unpacking, and exploring the beauty of your rental. But when dinner time rolls around, hunger pangs may have you looking for a place to dine, especially since you won’t want to cook on your first night in town.

The Tomboy Tavern, located at Mountain Village Boulevard, is our first recommendation for places to visit in Telluride, offering a casual ambience, reasonable prices, and an authentic peek into the vibe of our town. Serving classic American dishes that are hearty and filling, this mountain spot also has craft beer and elegant wines, ensuring that every sip will be your favorite.

A Stroll Through Mountain Village

We’re not going to make your first night in town too structured. You have two full days to explore in a more in-depth manner, but the hearty meal may make you ready for a stroll, and Mountain Village, where the Tomboy Tavern is located, is a charming spot to explore.

If your visit is during the winter, the firepit at Mountain Village’s outdoor ice skating rink offers a touch of romance, as does the opportunity to take a spin around the rink, holding hands with your favorite traveling partner. Summer visitors may decide that the music playing is just too catchy to ignore, joining the queue at Reflection Plaza on Friday nights, where Music on the Green greets every weekend, or may tap their toes and sing along to the live entertainment provided during the Summer Concert Series at Conference Center Plaza on Wednesday nights.

Day 2: The Great Outdoors

After rising early and grabbing a delicious breakfast at the View, located at 457 Mountain Village Boulevard, (You MUST try their Alpine French Toast, topped with preserved huckleberries, whipped mascarpone, and maple syrup!) it is time to experience the best Telluride has to offer, and by that we mean the great outdoors!

Winter visitors will, of course, want to hit the slopes, spending the day on the mountain with breaks for hot chocolate, lunch, or the alcoholic beverage of their choice in between runs down the slope. Summer visitors will want to spend some time on the mountain as well. Some of the best trails are the ones you ski down in the winter, although the Bridal Veil Falls Trail may call your name, leading you to Colorado’s tallest free-falling waterfall, the aptly named Bridal Veil Falls.

Enjoy dinner at The Grand, 100 W Colorado Avenue, (small plates or steaks are the meals we suggest) and finish up your night at Obannon’s Irish Pub, 138 E Colorado Avenue, where the vibe is funky, the music is addictive, and the whiskey goes down smooth.

Day 3: History, Ghosts, and Some Time at Home in Your Accommodations in Telluride Sanctuary

Three days go by fast, and we are pushing the envelope a bit, assuming you will return home on the morning of day four (check out is 10AM). There is still a lot to see and a lot more that you won’t get to see this time, but there’s always next time.

Today would be a great day to explore all the Telluride Historical Museum has to offer, to hit the shops in our historic district in downtown Telluride, and if you have the energy, sign up for a walking tour of Telluride, perhaps learning more about the ghosts and spirits that have made our town their eternal hometown. Telluride Walking Tours, 113 Lost Creek Lane, offers a large number of tours that explore the beauty of our hometown.

This is your last night in town, so you may want to spend it at home, exploring the amenities we offer, including that bubbling hot tub on the back deck, positioned where the views of the stars are best.

  • It’s going to be cold and snowy during our long weekend in Telluride, do your rentals offer garages to keep our rental car warm and dry?

Yes, many private homes and condo communities will offer garages, some that are heated, ensuring your car will be warm, dry, and ready to take you on adventures.

  • Besides skiing, what is the one thing you recommend I should do during my visit?

Hands down it would be to tell you to ride the free Telluride Gondola that takes visitors on a scenic journey between Mountain Village and the town of Telluride.

  • The Telluride landscape is so beautiful, do you offer properties with those sliding glass doors that disappear into the walls so we can pretend we are living outside?

Although it isn’t a common amenity, we do offer some retreats with the indoor/outdoor lifestyle, and you will be able to see which ones by scrolling through the photos in the listing.

  • We are celebrating our 25th anniversary over the long weekend, any suggestions as to where we should eat?

For the ultimate in fine dining experiences, Allred’s is located at the top of the gondola, allowing you to cross two absolute must-do’s off your list at the same time.

  • What makes the bathrooms in your Telluride retreats special?

We pay attention to all the details in every room of our properties, and the bathrooms are no exception, offering steam showers, deep (and sometimes jetted) soaking tubs, and the softest towels in town.
