Solo Journey to Telluride

Sometimes, when all around you is chaos, you must take the time to find peace and serenity. For many of our Accommodations in Telluride guests, they find both with a solo journey to our mountain town and a stay in our cozy retreats! Traveling without a partner has become quite common these days, and this guide to a solo journey to Telluride will help you decide if a solo journey is exactly what you need when you plan to visit Telluride Colorado.

A Gondola Ride Just Because

The free gondola in Telluride may not be what you first think of when seeking peace, but as you glide up or down the mountain in your glass and metal cocoon with the beauty of the Telluride landscape surrounding you, you will understand its appeal. The ride is a short one, taking about 12 minutes to get from Point A to Point B, but those quiet moments alone will be your first realization that your solo journey is going to be different than any other vacation you’ve ever taken.

The San Miguel River

There is a joyful serenity that can be derived from any large body of water, and whether you are standing knee deep in waders with a pole in hand, paddling happily on a paddleboard you’ve rented from Black Tie Adventures, or simply hiking alongside the San Miguel River, you will find your joy. The river runs through our idyllic town, and some of our cozier retreats sit on its banks, enabling guests to sit out on their patios, sipping coffee and listening to the river gurgling and babbling as it flows gently, just steps away from your chair.

A Hike, a Picnic, and a Waterfall When You Visit Telluride Colorado

Hiking the trails that cross the Telluride countryside is one of the best ways to find serenity, and when the trail that you take is one that leads to Bear Creek Falls, there are even more possibilities for relaxation and peace. This is an easy trail to follow, accessible from Pine Street in town and offering a wide trail bordered by grassy meadows and culminating at the base of Bear Creek Falls.

Your picnic lunch can be one you toss together in our fully equipped kitchens, but if the thought of cooking leaves you less than thrilled, a visit to Baked in Telluride will allow you to purchase a sandwich and some fixings to carry with you on your hike to the falls. The trail that leads to the falls offers plenty of spots along its way to stop and nosh, or you can wait until you reach the falls, letting the roar of the water tumbling over the rocks serve as accompaniment music to your meal.

Read and Sip on a Stormy Day

A good book and an excellent cup of coffee go hand in hand when you visit Between the Covers Bookstore & Bruno Café, 307 E Colorado Avenue. Described as Telluride’s living room, there is something wonderful about reading and sipping while the world goes about its business around you, and although you can do this at home in our Accommodations in Telluride solo sanctuaries, on a stormy day, it can be cozier doing so with others, even if your only interaction is a nod and a smile. This wonderful business has been Telluride’s favorite independent bookstore since the first day it opened its doors all the way back in 1974, and although they have moved a few times over the years, their friendly and welcoming ambience has never changed.

  • I like to watch television before falling asleep each night, are there televisions in the bedrooms of your rentals?

Yes, most if not all of our bedrooms will offer a state of the art television easily seen from the bed.

  • I’m a little uncertain about dining out alone, are there any restaurants that will make me feel more comfortable when I don’t have a companion to eat with?

Telluride is a very welcoming town, and we can’t think of a restaurant where you won’t feel comfortable dining alone, but if we have to choose one place, Stronghouse Brew Pub, 283 S Fir Street, is one we recommend for solo travelers.

  • Do you have smaller rentals that still offer ski storage?

Telluride is a ski town, so we ensure that all our properties, no matter what size, will provide a place to keep your skis up and out of the way.

  • I like to go to the movies by myself, is there a theater in Telluride?

Although it is currently closed for renovations, the Nugget Theater, 207 W Colorado Avenue, is one of our favorite movie theaters.

  • Can I rent a small vacation retreat with a private hot tub, or do I have to use a community one?

Many of our smaller rentals will have their own hot tubs on their decks, just check out the amenity section of the listing to be sure yours does.
