Weekend Journey to Telluride

When feeling stressed or overwhelmed, a Telluride weekend getaway can be the solution. Offering a time out from real life, the breathtaking views, crisp mountain air, and the comforts and luxuries in our Accommodations in Telluride weekend retreats will help you regain your equilibrium. This guide to a weekend in our Colorado mountain town will also ensure that you are able to make the most of every minute of your stay.

Why Telluride Is Perfect for 2- or 3-Day Trips

Not every town can be an ideal weekend destination spot, but weekend getaways in Telluride are absolutely perfect, and even better if you can extend your two days to three. Offering a walkable downtown area, visitors don’t even need to use their rental cars while here. Even though Telluride offers two distinctly different areas, the downtown area and Mountain Village, our Telluride Gondola provides free transportation between the two zones. In the most scenic of ways, we must add, providing wonderful views of our picturesque mountain town.

Downtown or Mountain Village for a Weekend in Telluride

The two primary zones of Telluride, downtown and Mountain Village, offer distinct personalities and vibes and will add luxury and comfort to your Telluride weekend getaway. Everyone’s travel style is different, so we’ve provided a breakdown of the two areas to help you decide which may be the perfect place to stay during your visit.

Mountain Village

Mountain Village was built with purpose. Designed to resemble the picturesque charm of European-style ski villages, the area is a bit more luxurious than downtown. These properties will be ski-in/ski-out, and our weekend Telluride rentals in Mountain Village will mostly be newer than the historic rentals available in downtown Telluride.

Downtown Telluride

We often say that staying in downtown Telluride gives visitors a more authentic vacation experience, but we don’t mean that to be dismissive of Mountain Village. We just mean that this is where our history began, and during your weekend getaway in Telluride, you may notice how we preserve that history while giving old buildings new intent. We do offer quite a few historic weekend rentals in downtown Telluride, properties that have been a part of Telluride as long as it has been a town. We just updated and added the little extras that will make you feel comfortable and at home.

Easy Weekend Itinerary: What to Do in 2–3 Days

Long Telluride weekend getaways are sure to become your newest obsession, with this itinerary providing ammunition for your continued love affair with our Colorado town.

Day 1

On your first day in town, you will probably just want to relax, grab a quick bite to eat, and explore the amenities of your weekend sanctuary. Stronghouse Brew Pub offers a menu filled with elevated pub grub selections and is our favorite place to go when we are craving the unusual. (Their elk jalapeño cheddar brat, for example.) After a few beers or cocktails, the hot tub in your weekend escape will start to look pretty good, as will a good night’s sleep.

  • Address: 283 S Fir St, Telluride, CO 81435
  • Hours: 11 AM to 9 PM
  • Menu

Day 2

Waking up and feeling rested and ready to go looks good on you, and on day two of your long winter weekend, a day spent on the slopes is highly recommended. If your Telluride weekend getaway takes place in the summer, Telluride Outside offers a long list of guided services, including fly fishing, rafting, and 4WD tours; our favorite is their Telluride Waterfalls tour, available from mid-May through the end of July.

Day 3

The weekend certainly does go by fast, but even though checkout is at 10, you can still enjoy a few more adventures. Breakfast at the Butcher & the Baker, a hike to Bridal Veil Falls, and one last ride on the Gondola, taking all the pictures you forgot to take during your first trip, are a few examples.

Dining, Views, and Must‑See Highlights

There will be many places to see stunning views during your weekend getaway in Telluride, including from the Gondola or even the deck of your weekend retreat. There aren’t any lowlights when it comes to must-see views or must-do adventures, but if you have a sweet tooth, we do recommend a visit to Telluride Truffle. We’ve listed a few of our favorite restaurants below:

  • Brown Dog Pizza – Casual pizza joint with a large patio and special children’s menu
  • there Telluride – Cocktails and small plates
  • La Marmotte – Charming, intimate French restaurant
