A weekend in Telluride can be just the thing to get you out of a slump and a weekend in our Accommodations in Telluride mountain sanctuaries can bring you the peace, comfort, and rest that you never knew you needed. Real life can be tough, throwing problems at you, feeding you worries, and depriving you of sleep so desperately needed, but your quick trip to Telluride Colorado will wipe the slate clean, offering the chance to regroup and relax as you play as hard as you sleep. This guide to the adventures you can have in the mountains and the more comfortable ones that you will enjoy in our vacation rentals will give you another way to find peace, even before your journey has begun.
A Jaunt Down the Slopes
Although Telluride is very much a four seasons vacation destination, for the purpose of this weekend we are going to divide the itinerary into just two—the snowy season and the not snowy season—starting with the beautiful time of year when the white stuff blankets the ground. Of course, you will want to take at least one day to experience the ski resort our mountain habitat is famed for, renting skis or boards from local outdoor shops or bringing your own “babies” along. The sun shining brightly in blue skies, the colorful winter clothing of your fellow skiers standing out against the white, and that feeling of freedom that begins with the first push of the poles that urge you down the mountain and into your happy place—how can you not feel better about everything after a day like this?
Events to Remember
Our vital and bustling community always has something going on, no matter what the season and maybe your weekend will coincide with some of our favorite festivals. When you are feeling blue, nothing cheers you up faster than the Telluride Comedy Festival, held mid-February every year and offering some of the nation’s funniest comedians. Telluride Gay Ski Week begins as the comedy fest ends, offering a variety of events that add a beautiful shimmer to your ski adventures, including pool parties, après ski specials, and the much anticipated white party where everyone is urged to dress in their finest white apparel and party the night away at two different venues, hosted by separate DJs. Telluride Gay Ski Week has traditionally coincided with Telluride’s AID’s Benefit Fashion Gala, adding an extra layer of style and philanthropic edge to your weekend as the proceeds will go towards fighting AIDS/HIV and raising awareness that yes, it is still a very real and very devastating condition.
Summer Hits Just Right
Our summer weekend travelers will not miss the snow, as they play on mountains that are lush and green and filled with trails that can be used for hiking in the not snowy months. If you are a regular Telluride visitor you may appreciate the dichotomy of the two very different experiences while deepening your love for our mountain town overall. The trails of Telluride, just as when covered in snow, can be easy, moderate, or what was I thinking difficult and will offer yet another way to forget about your troubles. Many are great for mountain biking as well, including the moderately difficult Telluride River Trail that meanders along the San Miguel River and takes hikers and bikers to the breathtaking Bridal Veil Falls. Kid and leashed dog friendly, your adventures here will be ones you never forget.
Telluride Balloon Festival, Early June
The beauty of a hot air balloon glowing in the night sky stuns the soul and this fun summer festival is one we look forward to every year. Flights will take place in the mornings, weather permitting, and on Saturday night, the balloons line up in the streets of Telluride creating a magic that won’t soon be forgotten, especially if you bring your camera! Refreshments are sold on the basketball court of Telluride Town Park and although this isn’t one of those events that is raucous and filled with energy, this laid back celebration of hot air balloons will still touch your heart.
Cosmopolitan Restaurant, 301 W San Juan Avenue, Open Daily 4-9
A weekend getaway is often a celebration of something wonderful and something wonderful deserves a special occasion meal at Cosmopolitan Restaurant! Offering something they call “globally inspired new American food” white tablecloths, dim lighting, and color flowers in bud vases give your meal a romantic glow, perhaps in tangent with the Main Street Glow taking place in downtown during the Telluride Balloon Festival.
