Telluride Horror Show

The month of October may be our absolute favorite month of the year, offering cool breezes,  trees that turn all the shades of fire, and the Telluride Horror Show, a scary film festival that celebrates the season and the joy of Halloween. Spend your days watching movies that bring goosebumps to your skin and a cry of surprise to your lips, and when you think you can’t take another minute of the torture on the screen, come home to Accommodations in Telluride and fall in love with the peace, serenity, and charm that is a reflection of our mountain hometown. This guide to the Telluride Horror Show and all the joy you will find within in our Colorado sanctuaries will have you adding a Telluride October vacation to your travel bucket list.

The Magic Begins in Mid-October

The spooky season always has us looking for all the ways to find our frights, and the Telluride Horror Show is a festival experience that is most unexpected. You may be used to film festivals that celebrate independent films or even documentaries that teach us about the world, but this one, it may actually be the only of its kind, takes viewers to the dark side of movie magic. Making its first appearance in Telluride in 2010, the movies you watch will be aired at three different venues in town: the Michael D. Palm Theater (aka the Palm), located at 721 Colorado Avenue; the Nugget Theater, located at 207 W Colorado Avenue; and the Historic Sheridan Opera House, the center of entertainment in Telluride, located at 110 N Oak Street. Lasting for three days and offering more than 50 frightening, bloody, and imaginative films on display, our Halloween fans won’t be able to resist trying to watch every film being shown!

More Than

In a world of so-so and meh, a film festival that is more than spooky, more than exciting, and more than just scary movies is a nice change. Although the theme is spooky, it’s not just horror films being shown. Visitors can expect suspenseful escapes, thrilling thrillers, fantastic sci-fi, and to laugh at the dark humor in the dark comedies they watch. Receiving rave reviews in its relatively short existence, horror movie buffs (and we all know at least one, if we aren’t the buff) wait 364 days for this macabre festival to make its way back to Telluride, and even though it is about more than just scary movies, the scary movies always seem to be the main draw. Showing feature and short films, many of which are making their first appearance on the big screen, there will also be a variety of programs, meet & greets with the stars and filmmakers, and special events that will cement the realization that this festival is one you will wish never had to end!

All the Ways

Tickets go on sale in March for this October event, and the cost of those tickets will change annually, but some things stay the same, and that includes all the ways you can enjoy the magic on the big screen. Individual tickets can be purchased if there is just one specific movie you want to watch, or if you just don’t have the time to view more than a movie or two, you can buy the tickets that are custom made to your enjoyment of films. But because more is always more, tickets are also sold in six-packs, costing less than if you purchased six individual tickets. Or, if you are here for the entire festival, living it up in comfort and style in our Accommodations in Telluride holiday hideaways, you may want to consider a three-day pass and spend the best three days of your life binge-watching the movies that make you jump and scream!
