For every traveler visiting Telluride, every journey can be different than the other. Some may be seeking a sophisticated vacation filled with gourmet meals and nights spent at the theater, and others may be searching for a ski vacation offering long days on the slopes and even longer hours enjoying après ski. And still others—travelers such as yourselves, perhaps—may be hunting for a family vacation, filling the days and nights with family-friendly activities that will draw you closer as a unit and create memories that will last forever. Every vacation type is possible in our mountain town, and we at Accommodations in Telluride have created this guide to Telluride family activities you can enjoy during your fun-filled escape to our oh-so-comfortable and relaxing family sanctuaries!
Bluegrass Festival, Held in June
For 51 years the Bluegrass Festival has helped kick off the summer, and unlike some of our local festivals, this one is definitely family-friendly, even going so far as to offer a family tent! Offering friendly (not scary) clowns, face painting, craft opportunities, and a kids’ talent show, proud parents can still hear and be a part of the music that makes their feet dance and their hearts soar but can also be participating in an experience their children will love. The festival is generally held the last week of June.

Ice Skating, Telluride Town Park
Anyone who watches Hallmark Christmas movies knows that ice skating offers the perfect opportunity to spend time with kids while adding a little romance to your own time, which of course ensures that the trip will be 100% successful on all fronts! Telluride Town Park is the site of our favorite ice skating rink, (only open during the winter months) and as you glide across the ice, hand in hand with your littles, and sip hot cocoa in the warming hut, you will discover that our mountain town truly is a Colorado paradise.
Take a Hike
One of the hardest things we will ever do as parents is convince our kiddos that playing outside is so much more fun than spending hours with a video game controller in hand, but we think that not only will you be up for the challenge, your kids may surprise you at their eagerness to go outside! Best performed during the summer months, there are a variety of trails that cross the Telluride landscape and are ideal for children, starting with the Bear Creek Trail. Offering only a moderate increase in elevation and ending with a gorgeous waterfall, it lasts about 5 miles, and a Telluride family vacation photo in front of the waterfall may be the perfect snap to grace the front of your annual Christmas card.
Steamies Burger Bar, 300 W Colorado Avenue, Suite 1B
Children are not known for their adventurous palates, nor for their demure and quiet demeanors, meaning that finding a restaurant that accepts them as they are and serves great food is of utmost importance. Steamies Burger Bar is just the spot, serving burgers that are also healthy, plus hot dogs, French fries, and the richest and most delicious milkshakes—in other words, ALL the foods your littles adore! Quick, inexpensive, and eco-friendly, there really isn’t any reason why this burger shop across from our historic courthouse shouldn’t be a regular stop on your culinary adventures.

Horseback Adventures at Baker Ranch
Want to make your kids’ cowboy dreams come true? The Maverick Ride at Baker Ranch will do it easily, (for kids 8 and older) promising to add excitement to the adults’ vacation as well! Available May through October, costing $120 per rider, and taking riders through some of the most breathtaking landscapes in the world, your littlest cowpokes will never want the ride to end, but you may be happy to learn it lasts about two hours if you have never ridden before.
