Summer holidays can be the most fun, even in states typically thought of as winter playgrounds! Telluride offers a holiday experience that will make you glad to be an American, especially on the holiday that celebrates our independence. Offering opportunities for picnics, barbecues, and of course, fireworks celebrations that will light up the sky, your escape to Telluride will also provide all the comforts of home when you choose one of our holiday hideaways to make your own during your stay. Giving guests the luxuries they deserve and the relaxation they so desperately need, our spaces are designed to make everyone feel right at home while they celebrate 4th of July! This guide to a Telluride 4th of July will ensure that every minute of every day will be filled with fun, and every night will be filled with comfort, style, and different ways to have fun.
Telluride Plein Air
Telluride Plein Air is a Fourth of July in Telluride festival that has been rocking our world nearly every year since 2003, and because its final day is July 4th, it has become a vital part of our holiday celebrations! Plein Air painting simply means the artist leaves the four walls of his or her studio and creates his magic in the great outdoors, and this festival will show off the best works of artists from all over the world. Go about your day of celebrating, and in between visits to local shops and restaurants you can watch talented men and women in the act of creating art. If you buy something, because yes, all is for sale, the proceeds go to helping preserve and continue the Sheridan Opera House’s contributions to the art world!
Telluride 4th of July Parade
As the world seems to be doing away with the heartwarming tradition of Independence Day parades, Telluride holds tightly to theirs, offering an all-American procession you will want to make a part of your own holiday tradition. The parade goes down Colorado Avenue, starting at 11 AM, and just as our nation’s parades have done for centuries, it features kids, dogs, floats, marching bands, and everything red, white, and blue!
4th of July Celebration at the Museum
After the last note has been played, the final piece of candy tossed to the crowds, and the horses have been sent back to their stables, it is time for the 4th of July Celebration at the Museum to begin! Ok, it is really just a chance to see the Telluride Historical Museum, located at 201 W Gregory Street, and enjoy some all-American root beer floats while they last!

4th of July Bash
The biggest party of the day begins with the parade we spoke of earlier and lasts until 5:30, offering live music, games, food, and a beer garden (also offering wine) that will bring an extra shine to your day. As you rock away the day, celebrating our nation’s birthday and loving every second of the biggest birthday party you have ever experienced, the fireworks show that is destined to be the highlight of the holiday is just a few hours away.
Red, White, and Blues, July 3rd and 4th
This two-day celebration of freedom and patriotism will not bring you the blues, even as the blues will be playing continuously over the two days! Mountain Village will be decked out in red, white, and blue for this fun family friendly event, featuring food, drinks, and activities that will keep the excitement building as the clock inches ever nearer to big boom time. Red, White, and Blues is one of the biggest events of the summer, and as you hang out with some of your new friends, listening to the music, laughing at your kids’ antics, and relaxing in the shadows of the mountains, you will realize that this holiday has suddenly become the one you look forward to the most!
4th of July Fireworks
At last! The moment you have been waiting for since you first started planning for your holiday escape to the mountains is about to begin. Telluride’s 4th of July Fireworks show has been thrilling people from all over the world for decades, and as you sit on a blanket in Telluride Town Park, staring up at the ever-darkening sky, you can add your family’s names to the list of people who are charmed by this distinctly American experience. The big booms start at dusk, and the memories you make will last forever!
